For the first time since 2006 one of Eleanor Mackey’s paintings will be going up for sale. Her painting ZEST will be auctioned as part of a fundraiser and grand opening of the Nipissing Region Curatorial Collectives’s (NRCC) Northern Ontario Visual Arts Hive (NOVAH) and for the Friends of Temagami.
Eleanor lived on Bear Mountain in Chisholm Township, close to North Bay, for the last 30 plus years of her life. She was a strong active supporter of the North Bay and area arts community and she appreciated the love and support she received from her fellow artists in the area.
ZEST, from 2004, was in shows at Renee’s Cafe and Art in Public Places. It is 28″ by 48″ acrylic on raw canvas, and although it is an abstract, it is in a classic landscape form. It is a good fit for the theme of the exhibition, Our Northern Landscape.
It has an interesting story as it is one of the paintings she started in the mid 70s, and then, after moving to Bear Mountain, she added to it in 2003-4 to produce the finished work. There is a page on this website about the painting with links to a video of Eleanor talking about the painting.
